Hammocks: The outdoor furniture that’s perfect for total relaxationHammocks are really like two pieces of outdoor furniture rolled into one. On the one hand, they are like a patio swing, suspended in the air and giving you the freedom to rock back and forth. On the other hand, hammocks are like lounge chairs and other outdoor furniture. You can lay back and soak in the sky above, or slowly nod off to sleep in the sunshine. Hammocks are extremely portable. First of all, unlike other outdoor furniture, you can simply roll up your hammock and easily carry it with you to a new location. Second, as long as you have two trees, branches, or vertical posts to connect to, you can hang up your “chair” and start relaxing! Most people hang their hammocks between two strong and sturdy trees. However, some of us don’t have that convenience for hanging this equipment. In that case we turn to a hammock stand, which allows you the freedom to place your hammock anywhere – in the middle of your garden, in the middle of your yard, or on your deck or patio with other outdoor furniture. Stands are available in wood and metal models, at prices suitable for many budgets.
Most hammocks are made of rope, such as nylon, which is woven together into a mesh that measures up to four feet wide (1 meter), and six to eight feet long (2 meters). Some are dyed in bright colors, although the preferred color seems to be white as it doesn’t clash with other outdoor furniture. Other Types of HammocksAn alternate to traditional hammocks is a piece of furniture called a hammock chair. The chair is suspended from above, usually from a strong tree or branch, or from a joist in the ceiling over an enclosed patio. Sometimes these chairs include a method for suspending your feet out in front of you, so you create the impression of sitting in a suspended lounge chair. It’s just one more example of unique outdoor furniture. Of course, in addition to hammocks, you can spice op your backyard with chaise lounge chairs, bistro sets, Adirondack chairs, patio tables and wicker outdoor furniture. Choose your pieces wisely and provide lots of options for outdoor seating, especially if you regularly have parties or visiting guests.
